System Requirements

xView needs a number of supporting hardware and software components. For the program to run effectively, the computer should meet at least the following specification.

  • MS Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4
  • MS Windows 2000 Server with Service Pack 4
  • MS Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
  • MS Windows 2003 Server with Service Pack 1
  • MS Windows Vista
  • MS Windows 2008 / Windows 7

MS Windows versions that are not supported:

  • MS Windows 95
  • MS Windows 98
  • MS Windows ME
  • MS Windows NT

Also required:

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or 7.0

Options

  • MS-Excel
  • Network interface card, cabling and accessories (when running client/server and no LAN is in place yet)

Notes

  1. The printer may be dot matrix, laser, colour or monochrome — any general purpose printer will do.

  2. The program itself needs only about 20 MB of hard disk space. The remaining disk space is used for backups and for recording historical data; how much you need depends on how far back you want to keep data and at what resolution.

  3. Audible alarms require a computer with multimedia (sound) hardware.

  4. Client/server operation requires a network interface card and the associated accessories, and the machine acting as the server should be a high quality PC.

  5. If the computer must be shared with other work, see the Appendix.

  6. Pager or SMS notification requires additional hardware: a modem, or a GSM modem with a SIM card.
