General Features

xView is a program that communicates with measurement devices, then displays and records their data. It runs as a GUI (Graphical User Interface) application on MS-Windows, which makes it straightforward and convenient to work with, and it provides the capabilities expected of a normal MS-Windows application (multi-tasking, multi-threading). The program manages every device connected to the system by itself, through its communication drivers.

Its capabilities can be summarised as follows.

  1. Receives data from devices connected directly, over a network or via a serial port (standard edition), or through an RTU (Central Server edition).

  2. Displays every electrical value from Digital Powermeters and records them.

  3. Displays the Harmonic Spectrum and Harmonic Waveform of each phase, for both voltage and current, line-to-line or line-to-neutral.

  4. Plots any received value or electrical value as a real-time graph against time, and records it in detail.

  5. Analyses and compares graphs of received data or electrical values against one another.

  6. Prints graphs and any received or electrical data to a printer.

  7. Communicates with devices over several channel types.

    1. Serial port (RS232/RS422/RS485)

    2. Ethernet, IP network

    3. Modems of various kinds (dial modem, GSM modem, radio modem)

    4. RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) devices

  8. Sends electrical data out to additional devices such as a remote display set or a PLC. Control can be configured in several ways.

    1. Manual control, through an MMI screen

    2. Semi-automatic, through an MMI screen together with a user setpoint

    3. Fully automatic, through a user setpoint

  9. Uses a multimedia-capable computer to raise an audible alert when a defined event occurs.

  10. Defines formulas to compute totals or other derived values.

  11. Stores data into an ODBC database (MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle).

  12. Runs in a client/server arrangement so that several computers on the network can monitor values in real time at the same time (optional).

  13. Supports data exchange over DDE and NetDDE, OPC, TCP, Modbus and BACnet for other systems such as BAS (Building Automation System), SAP or PI (www.osisoft.com) (optional).

  14. Reports data over the World Wide Web as text, images and MMI screens (optional).

  15. Renders MMI screens at Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) and supports touch-screen displays.

  16. Serves real-time data over a TCP/IP network (optional).

  17. Raises event notifications by pager/SMS (optional).
